We’re Ash and Abby—two sisters, two international students, and two women who’ve had our fair share of “this doesn’t feel right” moments walking home, using rideshares, or just being out in public.

EmpowerHer started as a simple idea: what if self-defense didn’t feel scary or complicated? What if learning how to protect yourself could be something you fit into your day, just like watching a short video or listening to a quick podcast?

We created this project to share practical, real-world safety tips with other women who live in cities like us. Everything we make—from short videos to expert interviews—is designed to be clear, useful, and easy to act on.

We believe feeling safe shouldn’t be a luxury. It should be something you’re prepared for before anything ever happens.
